When Frontline first came out, you had to apply it with gloves and limit handling of your pet (a lot) for a day or two. Not only was this kind of scary, the feedback was that it did not work so well. The application guidelines have been relaxed as the drug has established a more prolonged safety record. We keep it on hand for those who need the tick control as well as the flea control, but strongly recommend Advantage when fleas are the primary concern. This year we have a newer product made by the producers of Advantage will includes tick control, and this will likely be our treatment of choice over Frontline. It is applied once a month on the back of the neck like Advantage. In our experience, it takes a little longer than Advantage to give good control of existing flea infestations. It is sold in packages of three monthly applications, with prices ranging from $30/3 pack for cats up to $40/3 pack for large dogs. |
