All cats and dogs should be on a heartworm preventative program throughout the summer
months. We feel that as a monthly preventative, use from May 1st through December
1st is necessary (Year-round is recommended for southern travelers).
Dogs should be tested before being put on preventatives. We feel that the tests
on cats do not result in clear enough results, for they detect exposure to heartworm, not
whether the cat actually has an active heartworm infection. Dogs are much more
easily infected with the heartworm then cats, although we do not know why this is.
If we do not test a dog before putting on the preventative every year, an infection could
be missed until the dog is showing signs. Treatment on a dog who is symptomatic is
much more difficult and more likely to be deadly than a dog whose infection is caught
early.

dependent on your pet's weight. The price range is listed for each product. We
will only discuss those we sell - there are too many products available to 'pass judgment'
on over the counter forms.
